During CES 2021, TCL's proposal was among the most
interesting. The absolute protagonists of the keynote were certainly the new
Mini-LED TVs and rollable screens for smartphones but also the 2021 proposals
in the wearable segment have aroused the attention of the most passionate,
including smart glasses, TWS headphones and new generation Pet trackers .
Today we will talk about the MoveAudio S600 true wireless
earphones , with active noise cancellation and support for AAC codecs, offered
at a recommended price of 149 Euros.
Unboxing and Equipment
Inside the package there is a nice ovoid-shaped case for
storing and reloading the buds. Excellent plastic finish, both internal and
external, as well as the one that wraps the earphones.
The case lends itself to convenient transport even in the
trouser pocket, keeping the size limited but still making itself felt, to avoid
inadvertent overturning. The dimensions are 65 × 54.8 × 28.8 mm for 55 grams of
weight. The TCL logo stands centrally while remaining discreet.
There is a very short USB-C cable of about 21 cm to connect
to the rear terminal of the case for charging and an additional set of 4
additional rubber tips is included to improve wearability. An aid in terms of
comfort and stability that at the same time favors passive isolation, essential
when the ANC is active for advanced noise cancellation .
In a small envelope we also find the instructions for use
including the QRCODE with the download link for the dedicated app. With the
headphones stowed inside the case, activation can be done by lifting the lid
and pressing the side button. This enters pairing mode.
Communication takes place via Bluetooth connectivity, here
in version 5.0, capable of withstanding a range of use of around 10 meters
between a common smartphone and buds, even in the presence of physical
obstacles of a certain consistency. They can be used individually or together.
They can also be used with computers or TVs, but are not
very suitable for gaming. In this sense, the Dual Bluetooth transmission
technology allows simultaneous emission to both headphones, for excellent
listening fluidity, but the declared latency is 100 milliseconds.
Use and resistance
In the front portion of the case we find an LED that remains
green when the charge is above 50%, switching against orange. Same colors even
when charging, the first when at 100%, the second if still in the energy
transfer phase. As for the longevity of use, with the 55 mAh battery it is
reached around 8 hours, which drop to about 6 hours with the ANC active .
The additional charging provided by the case increases the
autonomy respectively to 32 hours or 24 hours. Without fins, which would have
improved stability, but the IP54 coefficient of these headphones makes them
interesting for those who also think about sports use , thanks to the
resistance to splashes of water, sweat and resistance to dust.
The stem shape and the positioning inside the auricle make
it rather difficult to accidentally come out of the seat even while jogging or
light gym, especially after finding the best pair of tips.
The first association with the external device is almost
instantaneous and remains so also the following times once worn. As previously
suggested, single use is also envisaged, in case you are driving a vehicle. Once
the earphones are worn, the stem remains in a semi-oblique position, with the
lower end facing the mouth. Even if it is not the best in terms of ergonomics
and aesthetics, it helps to maintain a good performance during telephone
conversations , or any audio recordings.
Musical performance
The 10 mm drivers do their duty , the type of material and
the frequency response are not specified but from a musical point of view the
result is more than decent if you are not looking for very full-bodied bass.
There is a good balance in the mid-highs, without exaggerations whatsoever, at
least as long as it remains around 50% of the maximum expressible power.
Going up towards the top of the volume, a certain 'dryness'
of the highs comes out in part which, at the same time, makes the lack of bass
even more evident. However, good results can be achieved by virtue of a
soundstage that favors general listening to both light and classical music ,
less so for more full-bodied genres in the low range such as hip-hop.
Compatibility is guaranteed for the most typical codecs,
namely AAC and SBC, but, in this price range, a wider offer was desirable and
also embraced more noble tracks. The ANC system uses 3 different microphones
per side and is quite effective although it is impossible to totally isolate
oneself, especially if immersed in the chaos of the city.
However, the noisy embankment remains on a good level, with
three possible configurations: off, active and surrounding hybrid listening .
The TCL Audio app allows you to monitor multiple devices between headphones and
smartwatches, keep track of the battery level of cases and headphones and
configure the touch controls of the earphones, but the equalizer is absent . An
external application, such as a 5-band equalizer for additional emphasis, is
therefore required to affect the musical performance.
Practicality with some reservations
The touch controls are quite precise as well as diversified
for each side. The left earphone can be configured to adjust the volume with a
single or long touch, on the right a long touch activates the ANC, while the
next one opens to external hybrid listening. Placing a single earphone in the
case interrupts playback, while the one still active does not take over the
commands of the counterpart . If, for example, you control the ANC with the
right pair, to act on the volume you have to go through the app, deactivate the
ANC and activate the volume control.
